Today’s the Day! MEADOWLARK Book Launch

Flowers and notes for reading

Today is the day! Meadowlark’s book launch at Collected Works at 4:00 today.

A soaking desert rain.

A soaking desert rain.

We woke this morning to a soaking rain. A soaking rain accompanies a birth in Meadowlark. It seems only right that a soaking rain accompany the novel’s birth.

Mom and Dad arrived safely yesterday after driving 15 hours through the unbelievable rains in The West. Mom said there were hours when the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up with the rain and they crawled along the highway, following the white lines  of the road.

They arrived and we went to Wynn’s volleyball game, Grammie and Bop Bop dressed appropriately in the St. Michael’s school colors of royal blue and white! Luke was at soccer practice, and Wynn had her own cheering section with Grammie, Bop Bop, Noé, Wyatt, and me.

I thought of all of us in the living room last night after the variety of sporting events – Wyatt in karate, Wynn in volleyball, and Luke in soccer.

We curled up in chairs and on couches last night, kids all still in their uniforms, adults had slipped into comfortable cloths, the rain fell softly outside. I sat and thought of the journey of Meadowlark and felt such gratitude.

In the midst of all yesterday, I did buy my first new pair of boots in years for today’s reading. I love them.

New boots.

New boots.

I think back on the journey of Meadowlark and can hardly believe this day is here. We’ll take lots of photos and video and I’ll share all here.

The rain continues to fall—bringing Meadowlark into the world.

Thank you and thank you for sharing this journey.

With love,

  3. Congratulations, Dawn! And thank you for sharing your journey to your launch day here with us. It certainly was a HUGE day, and you must feel a mixture of emotions as now the day has passed. I have MEADOWLARK on my to-read shelf and look forward to getting to read your debut. I am so proud of you, and am grateful to count you as a friend.

A wonderful accomplishment, best celebrated with friends, oodles of family, and gorgeous new boots. Enjoy! xo JK

    • Hey dear Jennifer, Yes, such a mixture of emotions now that the day has passed. I’m still in a bit of disbelief, as the journey here was so long and there were so many times that I thought this day would never come to be. And I am so deeply, deeply grateful that the journey of its publication unfolded exactly as it did, as the book launch was perfect in ways I didn’t dare even hope. And you are one of those very reasons. I am so grateful for your inspiring and beauty-filled spirit and way of walking through this world. So very grateful to share our life journeys in friendship. Love to you, Dawn

  4. Hi Dawn,

What a beautiful family and a fitting tribute with great photos and stories of the kids’ sports, family get-togethers and way cool boots! I wish I could have joined you for the reading yesterday but I am still recovering from a fractured sacrum. I have yearned to do so many things, including participating in your workshop but I am trying to honor my body and its needs.

It is very challenging just to go to work and so little happiness there – oh well! I hope things change for the better and soon.

    Congratulations and best wishes,

    • Hi Meg, Thank you so much for taking the time to write. Yes, I will make sure our library has a copy of MEADOWLARK. I’ve ordered a new box of books and will make sure I get a copy to the library when that shipment arrives. Hugs to you, Dawn

  6. It was so beautiful to be a part of your reading at Collected Works. You kept us wrapped us in your soft, powerful, playful voice ! I am in awe of your accomplishment dear friend. Came directly home to start reading – am halfway thru already – can you say “devour a book!” The rain, the sky all smile on you! See you soon to get a signature!

    • Hey dear Sandy, Thank you, thank you for sharing in the celebration. I loved looking out and seeing your face. I thought of your own love of the land and of horses. Love and love to you, Dawn

  7. I thought of you yesterday, with such excitement, just wishing I could be there! So wonderful that your parents could come. That driving rain has heaved itself on western Wyoming; my mom said over the weekend the water has pushed walls of dirt and sagebrush next to and onto the roads there. And the clouds! She couldn’t believe the clouds. It was like someone sliced the sky with a knife, she said. Anyway, looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing about your tremendous weekend event. Hugs!

    • Hey dear Kate, Thank you so very much for writing. Yes, so grateful that Mom and Dad made it safely. They said the rain along the way, especially in Wyoming, was incredible. The windshield wipers couldn’t keep up with the rain. I so look forward to our meeting at the WWW Conference! Big hugs to you, Dawn
